Your Assistive Support Co. has gone through a successful auditing process recently.
Due to the volume of new providers with the intention to become a registered provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) there are delays in providing providers with their formal registration details.
Due to the above Your Assistive Support Co. is one of those providers who has not yet received their NDIS registration number, which means at this time we are only permitted to support participants who have chosen to have their NDIS plan Plan Managed or Self-Managed. This of course only until our lucky registration number comes through. So please bear with us and we'll keep you posted.
It's important to note the registration process takes time, effort and a lot of investment which as a result a lot of the smaller organisations chose not to formally register with the NDIS. However, this is not us. We are purely waiting on our registration number.
Currently, not being NDIS registered there is often speculation about the knowledge that comes along with this. We wanted to make to clear that we're an organisation that is highly skilled, passionate and dedicated to ensure we are making life more purposeful for people with a disability through empowerment and supporting participants to understand their Human Rights.
As it stands, unregistered providers do not have to follow the Quality and Safeguards requirements of the NDIS Commission. They also do not need to formally conduct audits. We would like to assure your our service, regardless of our registration status will always adhere to the NDIS Practice Standards and auditing requirements to ensure best practice, safety and compliance are maintained at all times.
If you are someone with an NDIS Plan who decides to go with an unregistered provider our advice to you is you need to ensure you or your person responsible asks for proof of certification and qualifications (whatever makes you feel comfortable), you can even ask for things such as risk assessments and policies and procedures such as how to make a complaint or give feedback.
There are many providers who are unregistered. They are often small organisations or sole traders. However, some larger organisations are also unregistered. There are many benefits to using unregistered providers as they allow you to have more choice and control over your NDIS Plan and how your supports are delivered. Plan Managing parts of your plan gives you a much larger network of providers with more variety that may meet your needs better than a registered provider.
To access an unregistered provider you either need to Self Manage your NDIS Plan, or use an NDIS Plan Management services which you will be able to pick yourself or often recommendations from other do the trick. Make sure you discuss your desire to plan manage your NDIS Plan at your next NDIS planning meeting to ensure your NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator allocates the appropriate funding to pay the Plan Management fees.
We urge you to always ask questions when you don't understand something; for instance a provider or advocate. The more information you have the more you are able to utilise your NDIS Plan to its full capacity.
Remember you are in control always! To get additional support you can utilise the NDIS hotline which is 1800 800 110 and they will be able to assist you.
Alternatively, if you have access to your My Place Portal which we strongly recommend you do there are many functions available which can assist you in finding the right providers that meet your individual needs.
Our next blog we will focus on the My Place Portal and how this benefits you and your NDIS Plan.
